When Calamity Strikes
Feb 11, 2026
There are moments in life when fear feels physical.
When the chest tightens, the breath shortens, and the heart feels as though it has climbed into the throat.
Allah describes this moment with striking honesty:
O you who believe! Remember Allah's Favour to you, when there came against you hosts, and We sent against them a wind and forces that you saw not. And Allah is Ever AllSeer of what you do (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:9).
When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when the eyes grew wild and the hearts reached to the throats, and you were harbouring doubts about Allah (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:10).
This is not a verse about weak believers.
It is a verse about human believers sincere people, surrounded, overwhelmed, and tested beyond comfort.
Calamity Exposes What Lives Quietly Inside The Heart.
In moments of ease, good thoughts of Allah are easy. But when fear presses in from every direction, what rises first is what we have rehearsed most.
That is why Allah reminds us:
“O you who believe, remember Allah’s favour upon you…” (Surah Al-Ahzab,33:9)
Not discover it.
Not invent it.
But remember because the heart has seen His help before.
Thinking well of Allah is not something reserved for emergencies.
It is a habit built in ordinary days, until it becomes second nature in extraordinary ones.
A heart trained to expect mercy will search for it even in darkness.
Trust in Allah is not passive hope.
It is a quiet, deep submission that says:
Even if I do not understand what is happening, I am certain Who is in control.
And Allah never intended this journey to be walked alone.
Surround yourself with people who remind you of Allah when your own voice trembles.
Good companions are like stars they do not remove the darkness, but they help you navigate through it.
They pray when you are too tired to form words. They hold faith steady when yours feels shaken.
Store good thoughts in the heart while the skies are clear. Collect reminders of Allah’s past help, answered du’a unexpected openings, and quiet rescues.
These become your provision for rainy days.
And wet the tongue with dhikr now.
Because a tongue familiar with remembrance in strength will spring to it naturally in weakness.
When the heart reaches the throat, the tongue will reach for what it knows best.
Calamity does not define faith it reveals it.
And every test carries the invitation to return, remember, and realign the heart with its Lord.
Allah sees.
Allah knows.
Allah is near.
Closer than fear.
Closer than loss.
Closer than the heart when it reaches the throat.
And that closeness is enough.
A true reflection following a recent talk by Ustadha Samia Saad as she shares insights into holding onto Allah when calamity strikes her and family.
